A painting by the artist James Foort called: The Stone Monk

The Stone Monk

The Stone Monk started from a root that was solidified by calcium infiltrate. The root was found on a beach in Devon, England. The picture suggested the title and the dark color of purple gave the picture a solid, 3D feeling. The paint, stroked thin, made the white canvas show through for the three dimensional effect. Remarkable shapes and sizes of such relics may have expanded into the sculptures of Henry Moore; less likely, Barbara Hepworth.
