A painting by the artist James Foort called: Lion Drinking At Night

Lion Drinking At Night

Realistic anatomical features in LION DRINKING AT NIGHT include the tongue, the claws and the tail. The eyes, yellow, scattered along the whole length of the body, represent the watchfulness a lion might show. The moon, top right, defines further the night time setting. The blue stream with a fish in it gives reality a chance. Strong green lines outline the lion’s form, the thinner lines define the forest setting. The white lines identify skeletal segments giving credence to the animal’s form and lending solidity for the watchful eyes. Lines at edges of the painting frame the picture. I don’t favor frames around my paintings, preferring to leave them unconstrained for the inference of continuation beyond what might otherwise be constrained.
